Helping Ourselves (and Others) Heal

There is a very deep and special place inside each of us waiting and wanting to be filled...it's the nature of our earth school journey.

As we travel our path we all experiment in an attempt to find what will actually meet that longing in our hearts.

Power, money, possessions, fame, control, admiration all seem like possibilities...and we embark on our adventures trying these things on to see how they feel.

All of the above have one important thing in common...they all exist outside of ourselves...which means, among other things, that we can't predict how they will roll out in our lives.  We can make gargantuan efforts to attain them...or, they may seem to drop into our laps...but they can meteorically rise and fall.  Even more importantly, they only provide us with what appears to be external "rewards"...and, in the long run, do not satisfy our soul.

And so we are left with this longing to give substance and meaning to our lives.

In the last few days I have felt inspired to direct my energy towards the concept of healing
...practicing healing efforts for myself and for everyone I encounter.

We usually have a good idea of what we want to strengthen in our lives and, if we pay attention and observe the actions of others, we will probably have an idea of how we can encourage, acknowledge and affirm them on their journeys.

Here's what I found when I turned my attention to this point of focus.

ANY effort I made to help heal myself or another gave me a profound satisfaction and sense of joy and I knew it was filling the space I felt of longing for the something more.

In addition, it helped me to accept what I found coming my way (What Is) because as I embraced whatever was coming in, I had a sense of what to do with it....use it to help me become more than I have been...use it to help others to become more than they have been.

That forward motion, that reaching onward, that beautiful evolution, it seems to me, is what fills the space I have been describing which, then, makes me believe that we are here to become grander, more expansive, more loving and caring of ourselves and of everyone around us.

This amazing evolutionary motion is what brings us PEACE and, in reaching for this beautiful aspiration, we gift ourselves and everyone we encounter
with the grace of kindness...supporting and empowering all of us to fill the space that is waiting in our hearts.

We truly are in this together.

Carver Joe

My brother-in-law Joe was many things:  a husband, a father, a brother, a Boy Scout, a tireless worker.  Just as he uncovered the beauty in the wood he carved into precious heirlooms, he carved a beautiful life.

Joe loved the earth and, especially, its life-giving water.  He communed with nature, in particular, the deer and the delicate, mysterious  hummingbirds.  He built a home for his family on Kimball Lake and, together with his wife Diane, watched his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow in the light of the campfires and the sound of the shimmering waters on the shore of the lake.

Joe was a man of strong resolve and unwavering commitment to a dream.  He worked industriously and saved determinedly for many years to build a magnificent wood carving studio which he offhandedly called his shed.  There, as inspired carvers do, he brought his dream to fruition.

He was also a man of unquestioned authenticity.  He would not even have understood the concept of guile.  He was real...unquestioningly real.  You always knew where you stood with Joe.

There was a streak of the rascal in him, too, as he loved to make outrageous statements and then back off and watch others take them on.  He often remarked that he lived to provoke thought.

After Joe’s wife died several years ago, I noticed that he was particularly receptive to comments I would make to him that felt like feminine wisdom.  Perhaps that was because I would always remark that “Diane would want me to say this to you."

Joe remained tethered to his truth (how he saw the world and his place in it and what he thought he could handle).  But that unending persistence was merely a backdrop for the immensity of his beautiful heart.

Joe loved the earth and its inhabitants and the wonderful family and friends who populated his life.  Thank you, Joe, for giving us the legacy of how to carve the life we dream.  You have left us with the unparalleled joy of knowing you.

The Dream Master

A dream master creates a masterpiece of life.
                              don Miguel Ruiz

Take a look around you and see what you have created.  We are all living what we, on some level, have dreamed for ourselves... what we expect and feel we are worthy of.  We naturally tend to fill our lives with some happy moments, some achievements, and also some difficulties.  Perhaps this is because we have come to believe that life holds both metaphorical sunshine and rain.

We have been groomed to believe that we will find ourselves facing obstacles that must be endured and, because we believe this, we create it.  And, so, this becomes our default condition.  And we strive mightily to master our difficulties, exerting  great effort in the process.

Bruce Lipton’s theory of the Biology of Belief tells us that whatever we choose to believe, we experience.  So what we are living is what we embrace as a master plan for our lives.

But who originated that plan and why are we locked into someone else’s view?

The Way

As you start to walk on the way,
The way appears.
            ~Rumi

Place your hand gently on the door of the. gate.  Slowly swing it open.  As you do this, a lovely, lavender mist begins to lift and you find yourself about to enter your imagination for that is how you create your life.  To fully engage in this wondrous experience, you must forgo the security of planning and expectation.  You must completely trust that you have the curiosity and creativity and wisdom to recognize the gifts that  life is presenting  to you.  And you must leap off the endgrain of your experience and conditioning, diving into the mysterious and compelling unknown.

There you will find spirit guides, Archangel Michael and a host of fearless and loving Archangels, the watchful guidance of those who have gone before you, your Higher and future Self, and Infinite Intelligence.

Anything anyone has ever learned is available to you.  Anything you want to know is there.  You need only ask and then simply wait for inspiration.  The beautiful, loving Divine Universe will deliver to you the guidance that you need to receive the longing of your heart.
You are completely free to follow the diamond points of inspiration that can lead you to your treasure. Or not.

The journey is yours.  You choose how you want to traverse it.  You have come to experience.  What do you want to learn?  To know?  To feel?

Groundhog Day Revisited

You are here to learn from experience and create yourself over and over again.

Paradigm Shift

In the movie Groundhog Day Bill Murray plays a weatherman who is assigned to cover the annual emergence of the groundhog from its hole.  He finds himself enfolded in a blizzard that he didn't see coming and relives the same day over and over, experimenting with his actions and reactions each day, eventually evolving into a Higher version of himself.

On a primal level,  this is the story of every man's assignment in earth school.  We run into "blizzards" we didn't see coming and eventually learn to surrender to what IS happening...or not.  The choice is ours.  We can flow with the energy or push against it with resistance.  Our work is to choose a reaction or response to each blizzard and see if we like how it feels to us.  If we don't like the feeling we get from our choice of action or reaction, we can choose to do something different and see how that feels.

Like Bill Murray in the movie, we have unlimited opportunities.  And it is very interesting to note that after some experimenting and experiencing of the consequences, Murray ultimately decides to become a Higher version of himself.  Given the opportunity to respond in any direction, he chooses the path of generosity and caring.  This choice brings him delight, leading me to conclude in this analogy that we are happiest when we follow the impulses of the heart.

Groundhog Day is a traditional holiday celebrated on February 2nd, but we live our "Groundhog Day" on a daily basis and that is a good thing for we get endless opportunities to become the next, grandest version of ourselves.

How best to evolve and find peace and serenity?  That is a question we all live with. It is my belief that we ARE MADE from love, that we in our essence ARE love and that when we ACT FROM love, we sense and enjoy our true nature.

Dennis Waitley, American motivational speaker, writer and consultant, has a beautiful prescription for this question.  Waitley says:

Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude.

Regardless of how entangled we get in our own snowstorms and blizzards, how lost we might feel during moments of fear or distress… the simple formula of love, grace and gratitude feels like the way of Providence bringing us home to ourselves.
